The Deer and the Antelope

The pair looked up at me for a moment and as with the deer I expected them to bound off into the forest. They didn’t. They just kept looking at me.

Then I figured it out. This was the place. The site out of Western legend. Enshrined in the song. Where the buffalo roam. Where seldom was heard a discouraging word (or anything else for that matter).

Where the deer and the antelope play.

I wanted to play too. So much. But I didn’t. I stayed on the path.

Cover of A Transcendental Journey shows a blue butterfly with black edging on the wings against a grey streaked background
